The recipient of all 2010 calendar sales will be Bloorview Kids Rehab, Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation teaching hospital. Bloorview’s vision is to create a world of possibility for kids with disability. The hospital serves thousands of children each year with about 600 in-patient admissions and 52,000 out-patient visits. Bloorview is a world-class teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto.

So what’s the connection with the Bead Society?

Well, a member recommended it as the recipient of this year’s calendar sales having heard of wonderful work they do and that they have both an art program and bead program for the kids. After hearing about the Possibility Beads Program at Bloorview we agree! It’s a terrific program we are proud to support.

The Possibility Beads Program starts all the Bloorview children out with alphabet beads to spell their names and begin their necklace. Then they receive special beads to represent each procedure or special accomplishment they have undergone or experienced at the hospital. The beads are an incredible source of motivation for the kids. Many of these children have giant goals, like learning how to walk or how to speak again, and it can take a long, long time. The beads help break the goal down into smaller goals so they can see that they are making achievements everyday. Learn more about the program and the hospital at

We will work with the Bloorview Community Outreach Team in the coming year to plan additional fundraising and volunteer opportunities.
