January’s speaker is Mia Hansson, the author of the Facebook page “Mia’s Bayeux Tapestry Story.” Mia is based in the UK, so we are changing the time of our meeting to a Sunday afternoon so she does not have to speak after midnight.
In 2016 Mia started an ambitious project to embroider a full-size replica of the famous Bayeux Tapestry which depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. The original is almost 70 meters long and 50 cm tall. Mia expected it to take her about three years. More than eight years later she has completed 47 meters and is still stitching. Her Facebook page documents all the fascinating ups and downs of her project.
